Isa 43:25; John 17:4; James 2:10; Phil 2:8;
2Chron 6:36; Matt 20:28; Mark 10:45; Luke 22:44
All the false teachings concerning the Cross/work of Christ come from an unscriptural view of the nature of God. If one does not understand that God is sovereign, immutable, all knowing, holy, just, love, gracious, merciful, righteous, and a God of wrath then one will never understand the nature of the Cross/work of Christ.The nature of the cross is all about God in His sovereignty really displaying all His attributes for His glory. Christ said that He came to declare God and He did that most gloriously in His Cross/work.
Joh 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
The apostle Paul in the book of Romans said that the Cross/work of Christ was a real display of God’s righteousness not a contrivance, i.e. a cleverly devised plan that took the place of righteousness.
Rom 3:26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Paul also spoke of the Cross/work as a real demonstration of God’s wrath.
Rom 9:22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
When our Lord looked into the cup of God’s wrath in the Garden of Gethsemane He was beholding the real wrath of God not a substitute of wrath. Christ was literally punished for all our sins as our legal substitute because that was the only way for God to literally display all His attributes for His literalglory. Joh 17:4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
