The True Basis for the Christian Life

July 25, 2010

What is the basis for the Christian life?

Just as there are false ways to become a Christian there are also false systems to live the Christian life. All false systems concerning justification or sanctification always focus on the effort of man in contradistinction to a Christ-centered focus. The truth of the Bible concerning both justification and sanctification always places the emphasis on Christ finished work alone by means of grace and faith alone to the glory of God alone.

Only in Christianity do you have an objective, legal, outside of you basis for knowing the God of the Bible and fellowshipping with the true God of Scripture. God causes the elect unbeliever to focus on the objective work of Christ alone to establish a legal, eternal relationship with him. Similarly, the Holy Spirit causes the elect believer to return to the same legal ground with reference to the finished work of Christ for growth and fellowship. The logic of God is unmistakable. He wants us to focus on what Christ has DONE i.e. all that He has accomplished for us concerning both justification and sanctification.

Col 2:6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

Antichrist teachers want you to focus your belief away from Christ alone to your subjective obedience as the basis for salvation and sanctification.

Sound Christian doctrine focuses out attention away from us to Christ finished work alone and His resurrected life as the basis for maturity and the source for living out this moment by moment legal relationship. Paul in Romans 6 begins his argument for the only basis on which we are to begin our growth in our Christian life.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture alone the legal basis for our Christian life and all that God the Father has accomplished through His Son and His Holy Spirit so that we can live godly, overcoming lives.

If you were to do a search on the internet with reference to how to live the Christian life you will discover many different competing views. There are those that think you are to simply obey God’s commands and you will achieve spirituality. Therefore their ministry focuses on exhorting the human will. To them it is all about will power. They are the Nike Christian and their message is, “Just Do It”. However, they soon discover like Paul that they have no power in and of themselves to live the Christian life.

Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
Rom 7:19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.

Every Christian will face at some point in their life the same problem that Paul encountered and that is a “how to” problem. How am I supposed to live the Christian life? I have tried my best and I can’t stop sinning. This is the lament of many Christians.

We will begin our study in Romans 6 to discover what God has done for us with regard to how to live the Christian life so that He gets all the glory.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture alone how to live the Christian life based on all that God has provided for us in Christ alone through grace alone and belief alone to the glory of God alone.

Sovereignty In Suffering Is Sanity

Sovereignty in Suffering is Sanity

7/11/10

The attribute of the God of the Bible that you must learn in order to have peace of mind in the midst of all your sufferings is the sovereignty of God. There are Christians that are willing to apply the sovereignty of God to their justification but not to their sanctification.

We will look at the lives of three Biblical characters, Joseph, Job and David and see from God’s Word how His sovereignty applied to every aspect of their sanctification including evil as well as good.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture alone how to apply God’s sovereignty to your suffering in order to give meaning and peace to you in your affliction by seeing your pain from the viewpoint of  God’s sovereign plan over all of your life.

DECEIVE PROOF YOUR MIND

7/4/10

We are living in the time that the apostle Paul told Timothy would come in the future.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

Deceiving spirits are rampant in the world today. They are masters at counterfeiting spirituality. They want Christians to trust in their doctrines and not trust in the doctrines of Christ for their spirituality.

Christians must learn that Satan is very crafty and that just because the so called spiritual program that they are using is working does not mean that it pleases God or that the programs power source is from God.

2Co 11:1 Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me.

2Co 11:2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

2Co 11:3  But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2Co 11:13  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.

2Co 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

2Co 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

Exo 7:9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’

“Exo 7:10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the LORD commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

Exo 7:11 But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

Exo 7:12 For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.

Col 2:8  Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

Today too many Christians are seeking for answers to their problems outside of the Word of God alone because they have not been taught the doctrinal foundation for true spirituality and the true source for the answer to all their problems.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture alone that counterfeit spirituality focuses on man and his problems and a Christ-less way to overcome his problems. And that true spirituality focuses on the Person of Christ, His cross/work and the Spirit of Christ through the Word of God alone as the means to solve all of a Christians problems.

God alone is my Expectation

God alone is my Expectation

6/27/10

As we grow in Christ there are things that the Lord teaches us in order to wean us from everything that detracts us from trusting in Him alone. Our Father in His love and faithfulness is dedicated to show us that He alone is to be our constant expectation. Every other object of expectation for our happiness will only disappoint us because it is not a worthy object of belief. Our Father alone owns all our ways and ordains all our steps and we have no idea what the next moment of His plan holds for us.

In other words, the Lord alone is absolutely sovereign over all the details of our lives. Therefore we should not presumptuously allow our plans and goals to supplant God’s will as our ultimate expectation in every area of our life.

Jas 4:13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”;

Jas 4:14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what isyour life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Jas 4:15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

Jas 4:16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

You will only discover absolute peace and happiness in praying that your God will make Himself i.e. His will your moment by moment expectation.

II Sam.15:26 “Let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”

Psa 62:5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture alone that God alone should be our expectation. And we will also learn that the Lord test us to show us the utter futility of trusting in any other source of expectation for our happiness. We become discouraged and disappointed when God is not our expectation. When God causes His sovereign will to be the center and circumference of our life then and only then will we not become discouraged or disappointed with all the test God brings into our lives.

God Wants You Humble

God Wants You Humble

What ever you are going through in your life at this moment God’s goal is to clothe you in humility which is the character of Christ i.e. the Christ-life and not the self-life. Human humility is an oxymoron it is a contradiction in terms. It is impossible for any human to be humble apart from the supernatural work of God the Holy Spirit by means of sanctifying a Christian in the image of Christ. God’s personal path for each of His blood bought children in humility is to strip us of all our pride by showing us the sin our self-sufficiency and to cause us to trust in Him for our every need. He does this by taking from us our idols and all those things that direct our minds away from Him as the Source of our life, our peace, our sufficiency, our contentment and our joy so that we reflect the Christ-life to a sin cursed world to the glory of God.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture why the Father wants you to be humble and that His process of humbling you in not to harm you but to conform you to the image of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ for His glory and your good. Furthermore, this personal path of humility is the only way for you to not trust in yourself and to totally trust in the wisdom, grace and love of your Lord to do to you what seems best to Him so that you grow in the    grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

You Need God’s Encouragement

We all need ENCOURAGEMENT…!

You Need God’s Encouragement

6/6/10

Are you asking yourself why am I going through this suffering. Are you experiencing a terrible loss? Do you feel like the world is caving in on you?

Are you about to give up all hope? Have you lost all joy in life? Do you feel like you are trapped in a nightmare and there is no way out?

If you are experiencing any of the above then you need God’s encouragement.

The only place to turn when God brings us into His furnace of affliction is to run to His Word for encouragement.

Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Purpose: To learn from Scripture the purpose of suffering and how to be encouraged in the midst of any and all suffering.

God’s purpose in suffering is to humble us and test us and to wean us from our confidence in ourselves and to cause us to depend on Him to be conformed to Christ image and to cause us to long for our heavenly home with Christ.

Psa 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.

We are living in a great day of apostasy.

The apostle Paul said, 2Th 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

This apostasy is so evident today because tens of thousands of people are abandoning the historical, Biblical doctrine of the trinity for idolatrous doctrines of demons. One of the main reasons people are rushing into idolatry is because ministers are not grounding their church members in the basic doctrines of Christianity. In other words, Christians have no discernment when they hear false doctrine. They have no idea if what they just heard in a sermon is historical, Biblical Christianity or historical heresy. I have heard that in the Treasury Department they are taught what authentic currency looks like so that they are able to recognize the counterfeit. We must spend time in the Word of God and learn what our God says about His true identity so that we have discernment and are able to avoid any counterfeit doctrines concerning our God.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture how God reveals Himself as our Trinitarian God so that we will worship our God correctly and be armed with the Scriptures to defend our faith against Satan’s blasphemous attacks.

Where do you think the cults get the majority of their members?

Some people might think that the bulk of their membership come from the un-churched masses. However, that is not the case. The cults get their people from members of mainline orthodox Christian churches. The cults know that Trinitarian churches are fertile soil for their proselytizing because the pastors in these churches have not taught their members the Biblical doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

Consequently, the people in these orthodox churches have no discernment they do not know that the One God of the Bible is Triune in nature. And that means that the One God of Scripture eternally exist in Three Persons.

W. Tozer begins his book The Knowledge of the Holy saying, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” This comment follows what he states in the preface, “It is impossible to keep our moral practices sound and our inward attitudes right while our idea of God is erroneous or inadequate. If we would bring back spiritual power to our lives, we must begin to think of God more nearly as He is.”

It is tragic that so few Christians have not learned the doctrine of the Trinity. Since God is the fountainhead of all life and reality then if a Christian does not learn the doctrine of God then they have missed the key to understanding everything.

One of the most important keys to understanding the Christian life is to learn that the Trinity is in every Christian.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture that each member of the Holy Trinity is in you for the purpose of life and godliness.
