The Catholic doctrine of the Cross/Work of Christ vs. the Biblical view

The Catholic doctrine of the Cross/Work of Christ vs. the Biblical view

3/7/10

In order to know what something means you must know what it is not. In other words, in order for a word to mean something it also must not mean something. Meaning demands discrimination. Therefore, to learn the Biblical meaning of the Cross/Work of Christ you must learn what it does not mean to mature in your growth in what truly happened at the cross. Satan is a master at producing counterfeits. His masterpiece counterfeit of the Cross/Work of Christ is Roman Catholicism. God in His wisdom has chosen to have Satan develop many counterfeits in order to contrast truth with error. The contrast of Satan’s lies juxtaposed with God’s truth develops great discernment in our understanding between what the gospel of Christ is and what it is not.

What was Christ System of Thought?

What was Christ System of Thought?

2/14/10

Anyone who claims to be a Christian must on pain of contradiction hold to the same system of thought that their Lord and Savior held. What was His system of thought? How was His mind structured? What did He consider to be fixed, absolute, objective, unalterable truth? What did He accept as the authority of His mind? What governed and guided His every thought, word and deed? What did He rely on as the arbiter that settled every dispute? What was the basis for all that He taught? What did He believe about Himself i.e. His identity, His purpose, His mission?

Christ Alone: What happened at the Cross?

Christ Alone:

What happened at the Cross?

2/20/10

What happened at the cross of Jesus Christ is one of the most profound questions in all of human history. How you answer this question determines your understanding of the nature of God, your peace with God, and your growth in the doctrines of grace. There are many different theories set forth through out history concerning the cross/work of Christ. However, only God’s revelation in His Holy Word gives the truth of what happened at the cross of Christ. There are only two questions concerning the meaning of Christ cross/work. Did the cross/work of Christ in and of itself alone (Christ Alone) accomplish, secure and guarantee eternal salvation for those for whom it was intended? Or does the cross/work of Christ need something independent of itself in man i.e. man’s faith, works, obedience, or discipleship to make the cross/work effective. In other words, what is the saving factor? Christ cross/work plus man’s contribution or Christ cross/work alone?

Purpose: To learn from Scripture what God says about what happened at the cross. We will learn that God saves sinners all by Himself without the help of man. God the Father planned the sacrifice of His Son from eternity past to glorify Him, by satisfying His justice and holiness by means of Christ cross/work alone to demonstrate His wrath, righteousness, grace, love and mercy.

How to Stand in Truth Alone

How to Stand in Truth Alone

2/6/10

Our Lord taught us how to handle every problem that we will ever face in our lives by showing us how to stand in Truth alone. Contrary to Christ example, the world, the flesh and the devil offer us many false and deceptive ways to cope with our woes i.e. psychology, man’s philosophy, self-help programs, false religions. However, these anti-Christ systems always end in despair and only compound our problems, because these diabolical enemies represent the spirit of error and not the spirit of truth. The Scriptures alone reveal where we are to stand against all our enemies and how we are to stand which is by belief alone in the Word of God alone. The Word of God teaches us to stand in belief on His power, His promises and His victory and not to stand in doubt, worry and fear i.e. unbelief.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture how to claim your stand in Truth alone by belief alone to appropriate the victory of the cross/work of Christ in every area of your life.

It Is Written

It Is Written:
Three of the Most Important Words a Christian can ever Learn

1/30/10

Churches like countries, have an evil tendency to degeneration; we have fought to preserve our national freedom in this country, let us now ardently preserve historical biblical Christianity. From the very beginning of Christianity subjectivism has made its hourly encroachments and now modern Christianity is drunk on heart-centered popish theology in which supercharged experience is lord over verbal revelation. An historic shift is occurring in 21st Christianity away from Pauline doctrine back to medieval paganism with its emphasis and trust in heart-centered experience.Heart-centered teachers because of public infatuation have risen into renown, who not knowing the Truth have corrupted the church by introducing the wooden horse of subjectivism into the Trojan fortress of Christianity and thereby have confounded the Truth of Judeo-Christian theology. Where did our Lord place His trust and confidence in dealing with the most difficult battle of His earthly life? Christ trusted in God’s Word Alone and not in His experiences or feelings. His confidence was in the verbal inspiration of all of God’s Word Mat 3:16-17 The Lord Jesus believed in verbal inspiration.

How To Protect Your Family From Satan by Scripture Alone

How to Protect Your Family from Satan by Scripture Alone

1/24/10 Sermon

For the past two centuries Christianity has been subjected to an unrelenting barrage of criticism from scientists who have argued that many historical statements in the Bible are wrong; that man, and the universe as well, evolved—they were not created; that the Bible’s view of the universe is primitive and mythological; and that the Christian view of God and man cannot be reconciled with our modern scientific discoveries.

In the popular mind, the modern phrase, “ it has been scientifically proved” has replaced the Biblical phrase “ thus says the Lord,” as the final court of appeal.

In The Philosophy of Science and Belief in God, Dr. Gordon H. Clark analyzes science from a Biblical and logical perspective. His conclusions are rather startling, perhaps not to scientists themselves, but to many laymen who have been deceived by modern idolatry of science. Science, says Dr. Clark, can offer no objection to either God or the Bible, for science can never discover truth. It is ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of truth. What Truth Is and What It Is Not

1/17/10

What Truth is and What it is Not

Today when you ask Christians what is truth they give many different answers. Some say that truth is personal and not propositional. Others assert that truth is found in sensation, percepts, concepts, experiences, observations, science, psychology, and archeology and in human reasoning apart from Scripture. Christians are not unified in their definition of truth.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture what truth is and what it is not so that we learn to trust God’s Word alone as the only source for our belief and godly living.

What Is The Philosophy Of A Free Society?

Listen to complete sermon 12/27/09

What is the Philosophy of a Free Society?

Can you provide either a coherent foundation for a free society or a coherent description of a free society? We cannot defend the principle of freedom because we do not know the contents of freedom. Jesus said in John 8:32,

Joh 8:32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

It is so tragic that we are living in a country where we are losing our freedoms every day and moving toward totalitarianism and we do not have leaders that are teaching us the nature of freedom or how to defend it or maintain it. You will never learn about God’s philosophy of freedom in an American school system.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture the Philosophy of a Free Society

1. We started a series titled, “The Five Fundamentals of Christianity.  These five fundamentals are

(1) Scripture Alone (2) Christ Alone (3) Grace Alone (4) Faith Alone (5) To the Glory of God Alone

2. We want to look at Scripture Alone today as the foundation on which a free society is created.

The first question for every leader of a free society to ask is, “What is truth?”

Why Was Christ Born

Audio For Why Was Christ Born – December 20, 2009

Why was Christ born?

Intro: Why would you say that Christ was born? Perhaps you might say that Christ was born to save sinners and you would be correct. However, that is the derivative reason and not the fundamental reason. The primary reason for the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ was for the glory of God.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture that the primary purpose for Christ being born was for the glory of God and that the salvation of His people is subsumed under that doctrine. In other words, doxology takes priority and preeminence over soteriology.

1. Why did God make you and all things?  For His own glory. We are so man-centered in our theology that we think that God made the world for mankind. We think that God is man-centered. The Scripture ,however, states that God is God-centered.

Pro 16:4 The LORD has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

Rom 11:36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Isa 43:7 Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” Psa 19:1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of  God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.

Psa 8:1 To the Chief Musician. On the Instrument of Gath. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

2. God’s goal is His own glory. He seeks His glory in all that He does.

Joh 8:50 And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.

Exo 14:17 And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen.

Exo 14:18 Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

Isa 43:25 “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.

Isa 63:5 I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me.

The Five Fundamentals Of Christianity

Audio For The Five Fundamentals of Christianity – Dec. 13, 2009

The Five Fundamentals of Christianity

Truth is a system of thought. To understand Christianity and to grow in Christ a Christian must think like Christ, systematically and systemically. The five fundamentals of Christianity provide a Christian with a biblical framework to begin organizing their minds under a doctrinal hierarchy of thought. A Christian’s discernment is only as sound as the system from which they reason. If their system of thought is a confounded, comingling of human viewpoint and divine viewpoint then their judgment will be unsound, their minds will be confused and they will be unwittingly led by Satan.

Purpose: To learn the five fundamentals of Christianity in order to think like Christ and to live like Christ to the glory of God.

1. Scripture Alone—2. Christ Alone 3. Grace Alone 4. Faith Alone 5. The Glory of God Alone — The order is highly instructive and the qualifying word ‘Alone’ is of monumental significance. In the order God tells us where to begin our thinking and why we are to begin with Scripture and why we are not to begin with any other starting point. The word ‘Alone’ in each of the five fundamentals’ begins the godly process of separating in our minds God’s truth from Satan’s error.
