How To Protect Your Family From Satan by Scripture Alone

How to Protect Your Family from Satan by Scripture Alone

1/24/10 Sermon

For the past two centuries Christianity has been subjected to an unrelenting barrage of criticism from scientists who have argued that many historical statements in the Bible are wrong; that man, and the universe as well, evolved—they were not created; that the Bible’s view of the universe is primitive and mythological; and that the Christian view of God and man cannot be reconciled with our modern scientific discoveries.

In the popular mind, the modern phrase, “ it has been scientifically proved” has replaced the Biblical phrase “ thus says the Lord,” as the final court of appeal.

In The Philosophy of Science and Belief in God, Dr. Gordon H. Clark analyzes science from a Biblical and logical perspective. His conclusions are rather startling, perhaps not to scientists themselves, but to many laymen who have been deceived by modern idolatry of science. Science, says Dr. Clark, can offer no objection to either God or the Bible, for science can never discover truth. It is ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of truth. Dr. John Robbins

“The goal of science is clear—it is nothing short of the complete interpretation of the universe …. Science does much more than demand that it shall be left in undisturbed possession of what the theologian and metaphysician please to call its ‘legitimate field.’ It claims that the whole range of phenomena, mental as well as scientific method is the sole gateway to the whole region of knowledge.” Clark page 53, The Philosophy of Science and Belief in God.

Purpose: To learn from Scripture alone that there are not two sources of truth: the Bible and Science and how to defend our families form the modern idolatry of science.

1. We are commanded by our Lord to give a defense to every objection that science has against Christianity.

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

Jud 1:3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

Act 17:1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

Act 17:2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

Act 17:3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.”

Act 17:4 And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.

2. We must learn how to contrast the truth of the Word of God with science.

The Bible is: a. The Word of God : b. The Truth c. inspired d. revelation e. unchanging f. absolute g. infallible h. inerrant  i. propositional j. objective k. authoritative l. sufficient for all of life’s needs

The Word of God:

1Th 2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received

the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

The Truth: Joh 17:17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Inspired:

2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Revelation:

Gal 1:11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.

Gal 1:12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Unchanging:

Mal 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I do not change; Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same Luk 1:1 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us,

Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Absolute:

Pro 22:17 Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge;

Pro 22:18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips,

Pro 22:19 So that your trust may be in the LORD; I have instructed you today, even you.

Pro 22:20 Have I not written to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge,

Pro 22:21 That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, That you may answer words of truth To those who send to you?

Luk 1:2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us,

Luk 1:3 it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus,

Luk 1:4 that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.

yesterday, today, and forever

Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;

Pro 30:5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

Pro 30:6 Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. Psa 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth.

Psa 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

Infallible and Inerrant: Joh 10:35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),

Propositional:

2Pe 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,

2Pe 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Deu 18:18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.

Deu 18:19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.

Deu 18:20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’

Objective:

1Sa 2:3 “Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the LORD is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed.

1Th 2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

Isa 40:22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

Authoritative:

Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.

Mat 22:31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,

Mat 22:32 ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB’ ? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

Act 15:15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:

Act 15:16 ‘AFTER THIS I WILL RETURN AND WILL REBUILD THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID, WHICH HAS FALLEN DOWN; I WILL REBUILD ITS RUINS, AND I WILL SET IT UP;

Act 15:17 SO THAT THE REST OF MANKIND MAY SEEK THE LORD, EVEN ALL THE GENTILES WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME, SAYS THE LORD WHO DOES ALL THESE THINGS.’

Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS ACCOUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

Sufficient:

2Pe 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

2Pe 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

What is more certain than a Word from God, or more reliable than His Truth.
