Purpose: to learn from scripture that suffering is not a bad thing but for our good and His Glory.

Suffering is the essence of our sanctification.

Phil 1:29; Ecc 3:14; Dan 5:23; Ps. 139:16; 1 Peter 4:12; Romans 11:36; 1 Thess 5:18; 1 Peter 4:19; Coll 1:24;

1 Peter 4:12-13; 1 Peter 1:5-9;Ep. 3:20; Ps.73:25-26; Isa 41:10
4 Lessons:

(1) If you are a Christian, you will experience suffering. Why? Because it is God’s method to sanctify you to Christ’s image. mercy/comfort/all grace

(2) Suffering means/methods that we learn He is the only comfort in life.

(3) To learn how to comfort others.

(4) Suffering to strip from our pride and self-absorption-so that we trust in the Lord alone for all our trouble.
2 Cor 12:7-10; 1 Cor 10:13; Ps 55:22
